English sheep dog stolen from Silverhill home reunited with owner

(WALA) – A Silverhill woman has been reunited with her dog, Rags, that was stolen more than a year ago. Olivia Gardner is now planning the journey back home from Arizona.

Police discovered Rags, a beloved English sheep dog, at a home in Maricopa, Arizona. Once that happened, Gardner flew across the country.

Our sister station, Arizona’s Family, captured the heartwarming reunion over the weekend.

“I couldn’t be happier. I just can’t wait to get him home for him to see his brothers and for him to see his dad and my family. It just doesn’t feel real. I’m just so grateful,” Gardner said.

Gardner will always cherish the special moment.

Rags was stolen from her home in Silverhill more than a year ago. Doorbell camera video shows someone opening the door and taking Rags.

A break in the case came when the Maricopa, Arizona Police Department got a tip from the Silverhill Police Department, more than 1,600 miles away.

“The Silverhill Police Department reached out to us because they got an anonymous tip regarding rags being in our jurisdiction and we just started digging from there,” Sgt. Chance Jordan with the Maricopa, Arizona Police Department said.

Police discovered Rags the day after Christmas. Without hesitation, Gardner jumped on a plane.

“I can’t even begin to explain how special today is,” Gardner said.

“For us to be able to help bring him home to Olivia, it’s a great opportunity and we’re very happy for them,” Sgt. Kevin Mellor, Maricopa, Arizona Police Department said.

Olivia’s focus is now getting Rags home.

“Just be loved like he deserves to be,” Gardner said.

Gardner told FOX10 News Rags is doing well like no time has passed, but he does have some anxiety.

As for the investigation, Gardner said suspects have been identified in the case. She also said charges will be filed soon.
