Five animals find fur-ever homes in weekend adoption event

CONWAY, S.C. (WMBF) – The Horry County Animal Care Center met its goal on Saturday of helping five dogs find their forever homes.

“They give to your life, they don’t take from it,” foster mom Mia Dimattia said.

Mia Dimattia attended Horry County Animal Care Center’s inaugural Cruise-In for Companions on Saturday.

She said it’s important to adopt or even foster if you’re able.

“It’s very important to be a foster if you don’t want to adopt a dog. If you can open your home to a dog until they can find a forever home, that’s like the best thing you could do besides adopting them,” she said.

The shelter had 216 animals in its care as of Saturday, bringing them to capacity.

Adrianna Seals, a spokesperson with the Horry County Animal Care Center said that’s where the community comes in.

“We’re here to help, but we also need the community to help us. We can’t necessarily help the animals in the community if we don’t have space to take them in,” Seals said.

It’s the need for space that helps those at the shelter come up with creative ways to bring in potential adopters.

The goal for Saturday was five adoptions, a goal they were excited to meet.

“That’s five more animals that we can help that might need our help in the community,” Seals said.

The shelter lists its available animals online and encourages those interested in adoption to stop by during business hours.

Dimattia said she hopes the community will strongly consider helping out.

“I highly suggest anyone that doesn’t have a dog in their home come down and check out what’s at the shelter here and see if you can find a forever companion,” she said.

Seals also said short-term fosters also make a difference because it frees up space and supplies, even if temporarily.
