Video shows man carrying dog Lubbock family believes he stole

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – After her dog seemingly disappeared, a Lubbock woman was shocked to see doorbell security footage of what looks like a man walking away with it down her street. Lavene Vasquez is now offering a reward, asking anyone who may know what happened to Lily help bring her home.

Thursday afternoon around 5 p.m., Vasquez says she was bringing things inside from her car, when Lily, her English Bulldog, went out to use the restroom. When Lavene walked back outside, she couldn’t find her anywhere. While out of character, she thought Lily could have walked off, so she searched their North Lubbock neighborhood all evening.

Friday morning, she started asking neighbors if they’d seen Lily and to check their cameras.

“Two minutes later, she calls me. She’s like, ‘They stole your dog,’ and I’m like, ‘Who did?’ She’s like, ‘I don’t know, you can see him walking.’ And then she sent me the video and that was pretty devastating to see that somebody can just steal your animal, your puppy, your dog,” she said. “They’re like, ‘In broad daylight? Like wow, that’s scary ‘cause that could have been one of our children.’”

The family has had Lily Rose for about six years now, since she was a puppy. Vasquez lovingly compares her to a toddler, saying all English Bulldog owners know they are high maintenance and require lots of love and care.

“I know we all have family pets, and we all love our our animals. But like, she’s an inside dog, she doesn’t stay outside. When it’s cold outside, like right now, I guess that’s what’s really bothering me, is ‘cause I don’t know if they have her outside. I don’t know if they’re bringing her in,” she said.

After seeing the security footage, Lavene filed a police report and sent officers the video and screenshots of it. The Lubbock Police Department says officers were called to a home for a report of theft in the 1500 block of Wabash St. just before noon Friday.

“The lady’s ring picked it up at 5:11. My ring shows me walking out at 5:10, this was p.m. So, it was like in a matter of not even a minute. And then that’s when you can see me going down the street and everything looking for her. It was so fast, like when people say this happens in an instant, it literally does happen in an instant.”

Lavene’s family believes Lily was taken in North Lubbock, between the 1100 and 1500 block of Wabash St. She’s offering a reward to help bring her home. Lavene is asking anyone with information to call her at (806) 786-1976.

“I don’t want to ask questions. If anybody just wants to bring her, they can bring her straight to my house or call me and I’ll go pick her up at a public area. If they just say, ‘I’m going to drop her off here at any local, I don’t care where, I’ll go and pick her up just so I can have my baby home.”

Lavene is also asking people in the neighborhood to check their camera footage from Thursday afternoon to help track where Lily might have gone.
