FAITH, N.C. (WBTV) – A person and dog died after a house in Rowan County burst into flames Thursday night.
The blaze began shortly before 10:30 p.m. on Log Barn Road, not far from the heart of the Town of Faith.
Firefighters said the fire started in the garage before the flames spread inside the home. The cause of the fire is not yet known, but the county fire marshal’s office and sheriff’s office are investigating.
Several fire departments were called to the home and helped bring the blaze under control.
“As they began to attack the fire, they also began a search of the residence for any homeowner, and they did find a victim in the house, who succumbed to his injuries at that point,” Bostian Heights Fire Capt. Todd Taylor said.
Taylor reminded people that time is of the essence when fighting fires, and that they should report any flames immediately.
“The minute you have a fire, or you see something, you see smoke…immediately call us,” he said. “Time is very important. Call us right away before you try to extinguish it, go ahead and get us in route. We’re not going to get here in a few seconds, it’s going to take a few minutes, so the longer you delay, the longer you allow the fire to spread.”
Extensive damage was visible from the outside of the home, with heavy damage reportedly inside the home as well.
As of Friday morning, officials had not yet released the name nor age of the person who died.
