TORONTO — Open Farm recently issued a voluntary recall of its Freeze-Dried Raw Morsel Recipes and Front Range Ancient Grains RawMix Recipe dog foods after identifying small pieces of soft plastic film in select lots of the products. According to Open Farm, although the plastic film is composed of food grade material and is not toxic to dogs, the batches containing the material do not meet the company’s standards. Open Farm has asked its retailers to remove the affected batches from their shelves so the company can replace them.
The company determined that the issue was caused when small pieces of the liner on some of its raw protein ingredients were not completely removed before manufacturing. In order to prevent this issue in the future, Open Farm has added additional material handling requirements and quality inspections throughout the production process of the recipes.
The affected lots include:
- Homestead Turkey Freeze-Dried Raw Recipe for Dogs — lots 24250TRDDPS, 24256TRDDPS and 24296TRDDPS
