Non-profit group helps Broad Brook family find dog six months after it ran away

BROAD BROOK, CT (WFSB) – A dog rescue story is always uplifting, but especially so during the holidays!

The Moore family in Broad Brook lost their dog, Trixie, when she backed out of her leash and ran away.

Fortunately, she never strayed too far from her neighborhood. However, it was still an excruciating experience trying to track her down.

“She came from an Amish Breeder in Ohio, they were looking for a home for her. I said I would love to give her a home and after about a month this ordeal happened,” said Lisa Moore.

After post signs and frantically looking for hours, she enlisted CT Dog Gone Recovery Volunteers. The group put forth an all-out effort trying to find Trixie.

“From Box Trap to Kennel traps to drop nets, and then we realized this dog didn’t like enclosures,” said Carol Ferrucci of the organization.

People did come across Trixie, but the dog’s sheltered upbringing had her very skittish around people. If anyone tried to get close to her, it would scare her away.

Finally, after weeks and weeks of near misses, she ventured through a rigged horse fence on the Titus Farm.

“This past week she started getting more comfortable we were on a feeding routine, she came in and finally she got past the gate and when she got past the gate over there,” said Farm Owner Doug Titus.

“We all witnessed the event we were all part of the event we all had tears in our eyes, we all felt such joy,” said Ferrucci.

Trixie and the Moore’s are going to have a wonderful Christmas, with toys, tears, and lots of love.
