A gorgeous Bernese Mountain dog in Illinois was rescued after a week out in the cold after a drone discovered the missing pet.
Charlie had been let out by his owners, Kate Belmonte and her fiancé David Nowak, in Crystal Lake on the morning of December 30.
The couple spent days looking for the two-year-old dog and enlisted the help of a local search-and-rescue group.
The group, Dog Gone Pet Recovery, used a thermal drone operated by Mike from SmithicAir to scan the family’s neighborhood before it spotted the dog.
‘Oh my god! Yes, we got him! We got him!’ one of the rescuers can be heard yelling.
The drone found Charlie just a two-minute walk from home, hiding in tall grass.
‘He was in this, kind of, park, walking trail area off in some tall grass and broken-down trees. And, he was hiding there,’ Belmonte told ABC 6.
Charlie was found with a broken femur and sent for surgery after he was reunited with his owners.

‘It’s just unbelievable technology, and pretty much without this, to be honest with you, I don’t know that we would’ve been able to find him,’ owner David Nowak said alongside fiancée Kate Belmonte

Belmonte said in a Facebook post that the pup’s surgery went well and that he was headed home for some needed rest.
‘David and I are completely blown away by the support of the community that we live in… You are all such incredible people!!’ she wrote.
‘If only Charlie knew how he has become the neighborhood celebrity… We can finally sleep with peace of mind. It’s been an absolute 7-day nightmare.’
A GoFundMe campaign was launched for Charlie and his family to help with the dog’s recovery.
‘I appreciate all the help and support from everyone! We are completely blown away. I know Charlie says thank you to everyone as well!’ Belmonte added.
