Sedalia men charged after threats to shoot neighbor’s dog, child

SEDALIA, Mo. (KCTV) – Sedalia men have been charged after they allegedly threatened to shoot a neighbor’s dog and a child during an argument.

Pettis County, Missouri, Circuit Court records filed on Thursday, Jan. 9, revealed that Donald W. Albert, 60, of Sedalia, and David A. Griffith, 19, have been charged in connection to an argument that led to threats to harm a neighbor’s dog and child.

A probable cause statement filed by the Pettis County Sheriff’s Office indicated that around 11:30 a.m. on Dec. 29, emergency crews were called to a nearby home with reports of a disturbance. The callers reported neighbors had been threatening to kill their dogs.

As law enforcement officials were en route, they said it was reported that one of the suspects retrieved a firearm and threatened to shoot a child. When they arrived, they could see Albert and Griffith arguing with neighbors in the street.

Investigators noted that they found a neighbor had attempted to take their dog on a walk when Albert’s canine rushed them. The neighbor lost control of the dog and when a conversation was attempted to be had with Albert and Griffith a shotgun was allegedly pulled out.

The Sheriff’s Office said witnesses corroborated the chain of events. Charges of assault and child abuse were originally requested, however, ultimately, a single charge of unlawful use of a weapon was filed against both Albert and Griffith.

Warrants were issued on Thursday. As of Saturday, neither appears to be in custody. A court appearance has not yet been set for either Albert or Griffith. No further information has been released.
