DAZEY, N.D. — A Cooperstown couple injured Thursday, Dec. 26, in a crash near Dazey are still looking for their dog, who ran away after the crash near Highway 1 and Highway 26.
According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, Shelby Olson, 31, was driving a Chevrolet Malibu north on Highway 1 when she T-boned a semitruck around 4 p.m. Thursday.
The semi driver, Jack Fehr, of Wimbledon, failed to yield at the stop sign and began to cross Highway 1 to enter Highway 26, the Highway Patrol said. Olson’s vehicle had the right of way at the intersection.
Olson struck the passenger side of the Peterbilt in the drive tires. The semi continued eastbound onto Highway 26 before coming to a stop, while Olson’s car came to rest upright in the intersection.
Olson and her passenger, 34-year-old Charles Olson, were taken to the CHI Mercy Hospital in Valley City for injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening. The Olsons and Fehr were all wearing seat belts.
Olson’s dog, named Daphne, ran off after the crash into a slough area. The dog is a medium-sized brown dog and very shy and skittish, according to the Barnes County Sheriff’s Office. Daphne might be scared to approach people.
The Barnes County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public for help in finding the dog. Anyone who sees Daphne is asked to contact the Barnes County Dispatch Center at

or call 911 to reach the dispatch center.
The crash remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol.

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of “staff.” Often, the “staff” byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
