Toronto Police are seeking a suspect in a carjacking at a middle school in the Bloor St. W.-The East Mall area in which a dog — a four-year-old chocolate Labrador named Roxy — was also stolen during the morning drop-off.

Cops said that on Wednesday at 8:50 a.m., the victim was in their parked vehicle when the suspect approached, threatened them and demanded they get out of the car. Police said when the victim got out, the suspect got into the vehicle and drove off with the victim’s dog in the back.

The incident happened at Bloorlea Middle School at 4050 Bloor St. W. near The East Mall, according to a letter that went out to parents from the principal.
“We would like to inform you of an incident that occurred this morning during school drop-off,” principal Anna Patterson said in the letter addressed to parents, guardians and caregivers. “At approximately 8:40 a.m., a parent was confronted by a man who demanded the parent’s car and fled the scene in their vehicle.”

There were no physical injuries and police were immediately contacted, Patterson added.
“As you know, the safety and well-being of our students, staff and our community is always our priority,” the principal said. “We are working with the TDSB (Toronto District School Board) Caring and Safe School office and there will be an increased police presence in our area for the remainder of the week. We recognized students may have heard about this incident which may cause fear and anxiety. Please know that staff have been supporting and checking in with students and providing additional supports as needed.”
The suspect is a white male about 30 years old and between 5-foot-8 and 6-foot with a light-coloured beard and a medium build. He was wearing a black jacket, black winter pants and black earmuffs.
The vehicle is a white Jeep Grand Cherokee with black roof rails, chrome running boards and the licence plate CVRB 054
