The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District confirmed that a man and a dog died in a 2-alarm fire in Martinez Friday night.
On Friday, December 6, the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District responded to a report of a house on fire in the 4300 block of Arthur Road in the City of Martinez. The fire was quickly upgraded to a 2-alarm working fire.
Within minutes of arriving on scene, fire crews went into “Rescue Mode” where crews found an adult male and removed him from the residence. AMR and Con Fire Paramedics initiated advanced life support. The elderly man was transported to John Muir Hospital in Concord and after an extensive effort by ER staff, the man was pronounced dead by the ER physician.
Fire crews also rescued a dog from the fire and the dog did not survive.
The wife of the victim had been in the house when the fire started, and she was able to exit safely prior to Contra Costa County Fire crews arriving. The fire was under control in less than 30 minutes.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
